Huma Qureshi’s much-anticipated film Bayaan is all set to premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, marking a significant milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage. The gripping social drama, directed by Anurag Kashyap, is the only Indian feature to make it to the festival’s official selection this year.

TIFF organizers praised Bayaan for its “bold narrative voice and fearless storytelling,” placing it among the select few global films that challenge conventional boundaries. The film, which stars Qureshi in a never-seen-before avatar as a whistleblower navigating the labyrinth of bureaucracy and power, has already generated buzz for its raw portrayal of justice, truth, and resilience.
Speaking about the film’s inclusion at TIFF, Huma Qureshi expressed her excitement:
“It’s a huge honour for Bayaan to be showcased at TIFF — a platform that celebrates bold cinema from around the world. This film is very close to my heart, and I can’t wait to see how international audiences respond to it.”

Director Anurag Kashyap added, “Bayaan is a loud cry in a world of silence. We’ve poured our hearts into this one, and TIFF is the perfect place for it to be heard.”
The film is expected to screen in the festival’s Special Presentations category and will premiere during the first weekend, often reserved for high-profile global debuts.
TIFF 2025 will run from September 4 to 14 in Toronto, Canada, with Bayaan already being eyed by distributors for a potential global release after the festival. As the only Indian film in the lineup, Bayaan carries the hopes of representing the diversity and depth of contemporary Indian storytelling on an international platform.
