Phone 17 Air might be thicker than expected, new leak suggests

-

Recent leaks suggest that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Air, initially anticipated to be the company’s thinnest smartphone, may be thicker than expected due to its camera design.

Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the iPhone 17 Air would have a chassis thickness of approximately 5.5mm, making it one of the slimmest iPhones to date.

However, new information from leaker Ice Universe indicates that the device’s rear camera bump adds an additional 4.0mm, resulting in a total thickness of 9.5mm at its thickest point.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a unique design, including a single rear camera housed within an elongated camera bar, reminiscent of Google’s Pixel series. This design choice may contribute to the increased thickness at the camera area.

Despite the added thickness at the camera bump, the iPhone 17 Air’s main body remains notably slim. The device is rumored to sport a 6.6-inch OLED display with LTPO technology, a 48-megapixel rear camera, a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, and Apple’s A19 chip paired with 8GB of RAM.

Apple is expected to officially unveil the iPhone 17 Air alongside the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup in September 2025.
